Cozy & Scholarly · Dark Academia Dog Portrait

A watchful beagle rests its white paws on a stack of old books beside a glowing lamp.

A beagle with big brown eyes rests its chin close to a stack of worn books. Both white paws hang over the top volume. Beside it, two tall books with burgundy and green spines stand in a row, and a lamp glows amber in the upper corner. Dogs in library scenes like this have a long history in portraits of studies and reading rooms, and the pairing still charms people today.

The image has a rich, dark palette of chestnut brown, cream, deep green and burgundy. Short, thick strokes of color build up the dog's ears, the pale pages and the shadowy wall behind. The look is rough and slightly uneven, like layered strokes of paint, with warm light falling on the face and paws.

This dog portrait suits a home library, a study, a reading nook or a quiet corner of the living room. It pairs well with leather chairs, dark wood shelves, brass lamps and other dark academia decor. It also hangs nicely beside botanical or landscape pieces in similar earthy tones.

Frequently Asked Questions

Canvas, framed art print or art print — what's the difference?

Canvas is printed on textured cotton-polyester canvas and stretched over slim 0.79" (2 cm) wood bars — finished at the edges and ready to hang, with or without a floating frame. A framed art print is printed on premium matte paper and arrives in a pine wood frame behind shatterproof plexiglass, ready to hang. An art print is the unframed paper print, for when you'd like to choose your own frame. You'll find the exact details for your selection under Product Specifications.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure the wall space you want to fill. Above a sofa or bed, a piece about two-thirds of the furniture's width usually looks balanced. For smaller walls, nooks or gallery walls, smaller sizes work well. Our Size Guide shows every size in a room setting for comparison.

Does it arrive ready to hang?

Yes. Canvas and framed art prints arrive ready to hang with the hanging hardware included; framed canvas and framed art prints come with a pre-installed sawtooth hanger. Art prints are shipped unframed.

When will my order arrive?

Every piece is printed to order in the USA. Your estimated delivery date is shown right below the Add to Cart button and already accounts for production and shipping. Shipping is free on all US orders.

What if my order arrives damaged or misprinted?

Just email us at info@maisoncanvas.com within 60 days of delivery with a photo of the issue, and we'll send a free replacement or a refund. Because every piece is made to order, we can't accept returns for a change of mind or an incorrect size selection. Full details are in our Refund Policy.

Will the colors look the same as on my screen?

We work hard to show every piece as accurately as possible. Screens differ in brightness and color settings, so the printed colors can look very slightly different from what you see on your device.

How do I care for my artwork?

Dust gently with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid moisture, cleaning sprays and long periods of direct sunlight to keep the colors at their best.
